Product Description
STEINEL L 825 SC in anthracite is an outdoor LED wall downlight with a concealed motion sensor. Its low, curved aluminium body provides a restrained façade accent beside an entrance, on a terrace or along an exterior wall. Bluetooth and the STEINEL Connect app let you tailor the lighting and link compatible luminaires into a group.
Warm white illumination for entrances and façades
707 lm and 3000 K provide warm white light. The opal plastic cover diffuses the output, while the downward light distribution illuminates the wall and entrance area below the fitting. 9.7 W is the total luminaire power with the main light on. The integrated LED system and control gear are included, so there is no separate bulb to buy.
A colour rendering index of Ra = 82 describes how naturally object colours are reproduced; SDCM 3 indicates consistency of the light colour. The main light level can be adjusted from 10–100% in the app to suit the installation.
Concealed iHF sensor with adjustable 1–5 m reach
The 160° iHF sensor uses a 5.8 GHz high-frequency signal and detects movement by changes in its reflected echo. It is concealed inside the housing, leaving no visible sensor lens on the fitting. Reach is electronically adjustable from 1–5 m. The manufacturer specifies up to 5 m both for movement across the detection zone and for direct approach. The optimum mounting height is 2 m, with a maximum of 2.5 m.
Adjust sensitivity to the actual walking area to reduce unwanted triggering by more distant street traffic. iHF can also detect movement through glass, doors or thin walls. Strong wind, precipitation, moving branches and nearby large metal objects can affect detection. The manufacturer requires a distance of at least 3 m from Wi-Fi routers or access points.
Adjustable timing, twilight threshold and night lighting
- Stay-on time from 5 seconds to 60 minutes: each new movement restarts the selected period. Detection resumes approximately one second after the light switches off.
- Twilight threshold from 2–2000 lx: choose how dark it must be before motion activates the light. A lower threshold restricts operation to darker conditions. Teach-in stores the current ambient light level.
- Basic lighting from 10–50%: provides a lower orientation light level without movement. Select 10–30 minutes, all-night operation or switch the function off. With daylight mode selected, enabled basic lighting may remain on during the day.
- Soft light start and fade-out: brightness changes gradually for a more comfortable transition.
- Continuous light: extended lighting can be set individually using the app.
Movement activates the selected main light level. After the stay-on period, the fitting returns to basic lighting or switches off. The manual specifies 0.61 W iHF sensor standby consumption (Psb) and, separately, 0.4 W network standby consumption (Pnet). These describe standby modes rather than the 9.7 W power of the main light.
Bluetooth groups for coordinated lighting
The STEINEL Connect app for Android or iOS configures one light or creates a group of compatible STEINEL Bluetooth Mesh luminaires. Grouped lights can respond together to illuminate a route from the gate to the front door. Communication is wireless, so no additional control wire is required; each fitting still needs a mains power connection.
Lighting settings apply to the group, while each sensor's reach can be configured individually. One fitting is selected as the reference for ambient brightness. The manufacturer-linked app guide supports up to 100 compatible devices per network. The product's specified radio range is up to 30 m, depending on walls and other obstructions. This function requires compatible STEINEL products; Bluetooth capability alone does not establish compatibility with other lighting brands or systems.
The app also supports interaction between neighbouring groups. If two groups should trigger each other, configure the neighbour relationship in both directions. A detailed guide to setting up networks and groups is linked below.
Installation, contents and service life
The luminaire is 331 mm wide and 95 mm high, with a 157 mm projection from the wall. Net weight is 963 g. It supports wall mounting with a concealed or surface-mounted supply cable. IP44 provides protection against splashing water, IK03 describes impact resistance and electrical protection class II indicates double or reinforced insulation. The ambient operating range is −20 to +40 °C.
The package includes the luminaire with integrated LED and control gear, wall mount, surface-mount spacers, mounting fasteners and instructions. A separate remote control and house-number stickers are not included. Connect the light according to the manufacturer instructions; dimension drawings and a drilling template are available below.
The rated LED lifetime is more than 60,000 hours (L70B50 at 25 °C). This is a technical rating rather than a guarantee of a specific number of years in use. Both the LED light source and control gear are non-replaceable; replace the complete luminaire when the light source reaches the end of its life. The manufacturer specifies a 5-year warranty under its terms. Clean with a damp cloth without detergents.
Notes on differences between manufacturer documents
The stay-on time follows the detailed 5 s–60 min specification in the linked 11/2025 manual; a datasheet icon still shows 5 s–15 min. Basic lighting follows the current product page value of 10–50%, although the manual states up to 100%. The current page specifies 10–100% main light adjustment; check the available settings in the app for the individual device.
Current lighting data is 9.7 W and 707 lm. Some older tender files retain 12 W and 770 lm. Current specifications describe continuous lighting as individually adjustable via the app, so no fixed four-hour limit is specified here.
