Product Description
STEINEL L 605 S in anthracite is an outdoor LED wall light with a motion sensor. Its slender cylindrical opal glass and aluminium base suit entrances, terraces, balconies and paths alongside the house. The opal glass diffuses the light evenly and softly.
Warm white light with no separate bulb
729 lm and 3000 K warm white light create a comfortable outdoor setting. The rated 11.3 W is the total luminaire power at full brightness. Ra = 82 describes colour rendering, while SDCM 6 indicates initial colour consistency. The STEINEL LED light source and driver are already integrated, so no separate bulb is required.
Motion detection adjusted to your entrance
The 180° PIR sensor detects heat from moving people and animals. Reach is up to 10 m for movement across its field, or up to 2 m when approaching directly. Mounting the fitting across the usual walking direction gives the most reliable detection. The optimum and specified maximum installation height is 2 m. Glass, walls and other obstacles block detection.
Controls underneath the sensor adjust the stay-on time from 5 seconds to 15 minutes after the last movement and the twilight threshold from 10 to 2000 lx. A lower threshold requires darker conditions before activation. The daylight setting permits sensor testing in bright conditions. Sensor standby consumption is 0.50 W, a separate figure from the full lighting power.
Four programmes for different routines
Soft light start and gradual switch-off make brightness changes progressive. Night lighting uses approximately 10% output and increases to full brightness when movement is detected. The programme control offers:
- 1. Standard: motion-controlled lighting with night light off.
- 2. Comfort economy: 10% night lighting until the calculated middle of the night; full brightness on movement.
- 3. Comfort: 10% night lighting all night; full brightness on movement.
- 4. Nightmatic: full output below the selected twilight threshold, without requiring movement.
The middle of the night is calculated from the duration of darkness, not from a clock. In the first night, economy-mode night lighting remains on throughout the night; the calculation adapts over several nights. Keep the power supply uninterrupted during this learning period. Factory settings are 5 seconds, daylight operation and programme 1.
Extended lighting and detection masking
An external mains switch can activate a 4-hour manual override: switch OFF and ON twice in quick succession, within 0.2–1 s. The light returns to sensor operation after 4 hours. One OFF/ON operation cancels the override earlier.
The supplied adhesive masking film can reduce reach and block unwanted detection sectors, for example towards a road or neighbouring property. Apply it as illustrated in the instructions. Settings are made on the fitting; there is no Bluetooth, app or luminaire interconnection. Do not use an external dimmer: the fitting itself provides its 10% night lighting and soft transitions.
Dimensions, installation and package contents
The fitting is 260 mm high, 78 mm wide and projects 131 mm from the wall, with a net weight of 1004 g. IP44 provides protection against splashing water, while IK03 describes impact resistance. It operates at −10 to +40 °C. The diffuser is opal glass and the base is aluminium.
The light is designed for wall mounting on a 220–240 V supply. Protection class I requires a protective-earth connection. Install and connect it according to the manufacturer instructions. Included: luminaire with integrated LED and wall mount, 4 screws, 4 wall plugs, Allen key and instructions; sensor masking stickers.
LED lifetime and care
The current detailed manufacturer datasheet specifies a rated LED life of more than 36,000 hours (L70B50 at 25 °C). L70 refers to retaining 70% of initial light output; this is not a guarantee of a particular number of years in use. Passive LED cooling helps dissipate heat during operation.
The LED light source and control gear are non-replaceable. Replace the complete luminaire when the light source reaches the end of its life. The light source has energy efficiency class E and a label value of 12 kWh/1000 h. A 3-year manufacturer warranty applies under its terms. Clean with a cloth and a mild cleaner suitable for the surface; do not wet-clean the fitting.

Notes on differences between manufacturer documents
The lifetime follows the current detailed datasheet value of more than 36,000 h. Some marketing icons still show 50,000 h. The exact product’s contents illustration and instructions take precedence over general series marketing.
The manufacturer table states “No” for segment masking but lists masking stickers in the package. Manual figures 5.3–5.5 explicitly show using this film to limit sensor reach and detection sectors, so the description includes that verified physical masking method.
