Product Description
STEINEL L 240 S in anthracite is a slim outdoor LED sensor wall light for entrances, terraces and building facades. Its vertical form, stainless steel fascia and opal diffuser create soft ambient lighting. The integrated motion sensor switches the light on when it detects movement and the surroundings are below the selected brightness threshold.
Warm white light around the home
The 9.3 W LED system delivers 946 lm with a warm white 3000 K colour temperature. It suits everyday lighting beside the front door, garage or terrace. An opal plastic diffuser spreads the light, while CRI 82 describes its colour rendering. SDCM 3 indicates a small initial colour variation between these LED light sources.
Adjustable motion detection
The 180° passive infrared sensor detects movement most effectively across its field of view, with a tangential reach of up to 10 m. The manufacturer specifies up to 3 m when approaching directly. The sensor responds to heat from moving bodies; walls and glass prevent it from detecting movement behind them.
The sensor head tilts vertically through 90°. The manual describes an approximate 2–10 m reach adjustment range. Included sensor masking stickers can cover individual lens segments to limit detection towards a pavement or neighbouring property. The sensor also monitors the area beneath it. The optimum mounting height is 2 m, with a 1.8–3 m range shown in the manufacturer's coverage diagram.
Two straightforward controls
- Light duration: 5 seconds to 35 minutes. Set how long the light remains on after detecting movement; ongoing movement in the detection area can keep the light on.
- Brightness threshold: 2–1000 lx. A lower setting limits activation to darker conditions, while a higher setting allows activation in brighter surroundings.
Both settings use rotary controls on the luminaire. It operates independently without an app or network connection. The light output is not dimmable, and connection to a dimmer is not permitted. There is no basic standby light, soft start or dedicated continuous-light mode. An ordinary external mains switch may be fitted to turn the supply on and off. Sensor standby consumption is 0.5 W, a separate figure from the 9.3 W rating when the light is on.
Installation and supplied components
IP44 provides protection against splashing water for suitable outdoor installation, and IK07 states the impact-resistance rating. The luminaire has electrical protection class II and an operating temperature range of −20 to +50 °C. It mounts on a wall with either a concealed or surface supply cable and connects to 220–240 V AC, 50–60 Hz.
Dimensions are 81 × 165 × 305 mm (depth × width × height); net weight is 835 g. The package contains the luminaire with its LED system and driver, wall bracket, mounting accessories and sensor masking material. No separate bulb is required. A qualified installer should carry out the mains connection in accordance with the instructions.
LED system and manufacturer documents
The current manufacturer specification states that the LED light source and driver are not replaceable. The stated LED lifetime is more than 60,000 hours under L70B50 conditions at 25 °C, with Passive Thermo Control cooling. The contained LS-0057 light source has energy efficiency class D; its label gives 10 kWh/1000 h and EPREL record 804964. The manufacturer provides a 3-year warranty, subject to its terms.
For cleaning, use a soft, lightly damp cloth without detergent after disconnecting the power supply.

Differences between manufacturer documents
The older 08/2021 manual and 12/2021 quick start guide give sensor settings of 8 s–35 min and 2–2000 lx. This product card uses the current 08/2026 datasheet values of 5 s–35 min and 2–1000 lx. The current non-replaceable LED specification also differs from the service wording in the older manual.
