Product Description
STEINEL L 840 C Cube is a compact anthracite outdoor wall light without sensor for entrances, façades and terraces. Its cube-shaped housing directs light upwards and downwards (Up & Down), highlighting the wall above and below the fitting. The integrated LED system provides 319 lm at 9.1 W with 3000 K warm-white light. Bluetooth Mesh and the STEINEL Connect app provide control. Article number: 079277.

C version — Bluetooth control without its own sensor
L 840 C has no built-in motion sensor or photocell. It can be switched, dimmed and operated on a weekly schedule in the app. Response to movement or automatic night-time basic light requires a compatible STEINEL sensor light in the Bluetooth group, such as L 840 SC.
This lets you create a row of matching lights: the SC version detects people at the required point, while the C version switches on in response to the group command. A standalone L 840 C has no detection reach, angle or twilight threshold of its own. Soft light start is not provided on this C version.
Settings and lighting groups
- Main light 10–100%: select the brightness you need or switch the light off.
- Bluetooth Mesh groups: control compatible lights together from a smartphone or tablet.
- Weekly schedule: set switching times for individual days of the week.
- Continuous light: the light can remain on without a motion command.
- Basic light 10–100%: available only with a compatible Bluetooth sensor light. Motion and twilight control come from the group sensor.
Bluetooth provides control, not electrical power. Each light needs a mains connection. Brightness is adjusted in the STEINEL Connect app; no separate remote control is required.
Understanding light output and energy ratings
319 lm is the complete luminaire’s light output; 35 lm/W is its luminous efficacy. 3000 K describes a warm-white colour, while CRI / Ra 82 describes colour rendering. SDCM 3 indicates initial light-colour consistency. The LEDs use the passive Passive Thermo Control cooling system.
The integrated LS-0021 light source has energy class F and an energy-label value of 10 kWh/1000 h; its EPREL entry is 804393. This label applies to the light source. The luminaire’s input at full output is 9.1 W, while network standby consumption Pnet is 0.45 W.
The manufacturer specifies L70B50 lifetime above 60,000 hours at 25°C and 50,000 hours at maximum operating temperature. L70B50 is a statistical lumen-maintenance rating: at the end of the stated period, at least half the evaluated light sources retain at least 70% of their initial output. It is not a warranty period or a guarantee of every light’s operating life.
Installation, materials and protection
L 840 Cube is designed for outdoor wall mounting and a 220–240 V, 50–60 Hz mains supply. A surface-mounted supply cable can be used. The housing is UV-resistant plastic and the diffuser is opal plastic. Dimensions are 134 × 110 × 110 mm (depth × width × height); the drawing in the instruction manual gives the precise depth as 133.5 mm.
IP44 means protection against solid objects of 1 mm or larger and splashing water. IK03 is the enclosure impact-resistance rating. Electrical protection class II means double or reinforced insulation. Permitted operating temperature is −20…+40°C.
The manufacturer’s instructions require at least 3 m clearance from a Wi-Fi router or access point. This C model has no iHF sensor of its own and can be grouped with a suitably positioned SC sensor light.
Package contents and care
The package contains one light with an integrated LED system and control gear, 3 screws, 3 wall plugs and 3 spacers. No separate bulb is needed. The LED light source and control gear cannot be replaced. A remote control and house-number stickers are not included. The manufacturer warranty is 3 years, subject to STEINEL terms.
No regular technical maintenance is required. Clean the housing with a lightly damp cloth without detergents; disconnect the power first and keep water away from electrical parts. Mains installation should be carried out by a qualified installer.
L 840 Cube versions
