Product Description
STEINEL sensIQ, anthracite (RAL 7016), is an outdoor motion detector for automatic entrance, driveway, courtyard and façade lighting. It detects moving heat sources and switches connected lights on when ambient brightness is below the selected threshold. This is the COM1 version with an on/off relay. Manufacturer article: 056636.

What do the key specifications mean?
- 300° detection across three 100° sectors: reach can be mechanically adjusted from 2 to 20 m in each direction. This helps cover the intended area while reducing unwanted activation from roads or neighbouring spaces.
- Up to 20 m tangential reach: maximum reach is achieved when movement crosses the detection field. Movement directly towards the sensor is detected over a shorter distance; mounting height and ambient temperature also affect performance.
- Four pyroelectric sensors and sneak-by guard: detection also covers the area beneath the housing. The included masking shrouds can exclude unwanted sectors.
- 2–2000 lx twilight setting: a lower setting activates lighting only in darker conditions. Teach-in on the RC9 remote stores the current ambient-brightness level.
- 5 sec–15 min lighting time: select how long lights remain on after the last detected movement. A pulse mode is available for an external staircase timer.
- IP54 and UV-resistant plastic: suitable for outdoor installation in accordance with the instructions; operating temperature −20 to +50 °C.
Controls and installation
The package includes an RC9 remote control, corner wall bracket and masking shrouds. Use the remote to keep lights on for 4 hours or off for 4 hours, after which sensor operation resumes. Settings are also available on the detector; reach in each sector is adjusted mechanically.
sensIQ supports wall, ceiling and external-corner mounting. Mounting height: 2–5 m, optimum 2 m. Dimensions: 144 × 113 × 172 mm (height × width × depth). Position it so normal movement crosses the detection field and maintain at least 50 cm clearance from another luminaire as instructed. PIR detection does not work through walls or window glass.
This detector has no built-in Bluetooth. The optional Smart Remote 009151 communicates with a phone over Bluetooth and with the detector over infrared. Detectors are interconnected using wiring.
Connected lighting load
The 2500 W maximum applies to incandescent/halogen loads. For LED lighting, use the limits below from the current article-specific data sheet:

Capacitive load: 176 µF. Check lamp-count limits and driver requirements in the manufacturer documentation as well: total wattage alone does not determine compatibility. Supply: 230 V AC, 50–60 Hz.

Load values are separate limits for each type of light source and must not be added together. Actual detection depends on installation and local conditions.
Operating modes, installation details and care
- Pulse mode: In pulse mode, the output switches on for approximately 2 seconds, followed by approximately 8 seconds without responding to movement. Intended, for example, for an external staircase-lighting timer.
- Detection test: RC9 Install test mode checks the detection zone even in daylight: each detected movement switches the light on for 5 seconds. It ends after 10 minutes or Reset; Teach-in and Install mode cannot run simultaneously.
- Startup: After power is applied, the sensor calibrates for approximately 40–50 seconds; the status LED flashes once a second.
- Remote time settings: RC9 provides 10 s, 1 min, 5 min and 15 min presets; a separate button increases the selected time in 1-minute steps up to 15 minutes.
- Cable entry: Surface or concealed cable entry is possible; the sensor requires mains L and N. Manufacturer diagrams show automatic and manual lighting connection arrangements.
- Masking: Covering the lower lenses removes detection directly beneath the sensor; masking the remote-control receiving area can disable remote operation. Select masking positions using the manufacturer diagram.
- Control function: This is on/off control: there is no basic-light function or constant-light-level regulation.
- Parallel connection: Parallel-connected sensors must use the same phase; total load must not exceed one sensor’s permitted connected rating.
- Optional accessory: The instructions list the MPF 1 floating-contact module (609115) as a separate accessory; it is not built into the COM1 detector.
- Switch override: In addition to RC9 control, the instructions provide 4-hour manual-on operation using a suitably connected mains switch.
- Care and intended use: The sensor is intended for lighting automation, not as a dedicated burglar-alarm detector. Clean a dirty lens with a damp cloth without cleaning agents.
