Product Description
STEINEL DUAL US KNX V3.1 is a white ceiling presence detector intended for corridors, passageways and office circulation areas. Its elongated coverage suits defined circulation routes. Article 059491 belongs to a KNX building automation installation. It evaluates movement and room brightness, then sends control commands over the bus. A suitable external actuator switches or dims the connected lighting circuits. The detector does not contain a local relay for directly operating a 230 V lighting load.
Four sensing elements operate using 40 kHz ultrasound. Sound waves reflected by the room change when a person moves within the monitored area. This approach helps detect movement towards the sensor and small movements behind objects where passive infrared detection would need a direct line of sight. Ultrasound travels around objects; it does not penetrate a wall in the way that some radar detectors can. Room geometry and sensitivity affect coverage; check detection during commissioning.
For this precise article, the manufacturer specifies an 18 × 3 m detection zone for both radial and tangential movement, with 360° detection. Eighteen metres describes the total length of the zone, not a radius extending eighteen metres in each direction. The permitted ceiling mounting height is 2.5–3.5 m, with 2.8 m stated as the optimum. Align the elongated coverage with the corridor and test entry from both ends. Electronic adjustment of sensitivity and reach helps match operation to the intended circulation area. This model does not offer mechanical masking of individual detection segments.
The white RAL 9010 plastic housing is designed for ceiling mounting with concealed wiring. Overall dimensions are 70 × 120 × 120 mm and net weight is 193 g. Select an installation box and mounting arrangement appropriate to the ceiling construction; compatible Control PRO adapters are separate accessories. ETS programming provides up to four logical lighting outputs, presence information and HVAC control telegrams. Constant-lighting control uses the integrated brightness measurement together with a compatible dimming actuator to coordinate electric lighting with available daylight. Basic illumination, automatic or semi-automatic operation and an IQ stay-on mode are also available. The occupancy-lighting threshold can be adjusted within 10–1000 lx. Channel behaviour depends on ETS parameters and group-address assignments, allowing the installation to reflect the corridor lighting groups and the required switch-off delay rather than relying on a single fixed response.
A separate KNX photocell controller function responds to measured brightness independently of occupancy; its bus commands still require an external KNX actuator. Presence and HVAC signals can coordinate lighting with other building systems where the project includes suitable control equipment. Manual operation can use a compatible KNX wall pushbutton or an optional RC7 remote. The detector has no integrated user-operated lighting switch. RC6, RC7 and Smart Remote are separate purchases. After configuration, check detection, daylight response and manual override to ensure that everyday operation follows the way the corridor is actually used.
