Product Description
Corridor sensing with a DALI lighting controller
STEINEL LuxMaster Hallway DALI-2 APC is a white concealed UP presence detector for indoor ceiling installation. The manufacturer article offered here is 086305. APC identifies an application controller that uses the sensing information to control suitable DALI lighting control gear. It is not simply a DALI IPD input device that forwards measurements to a separate controller. Hallway uses two 5.8 GHz high-frequency sensing elements to create an elongated movement-detection area, making it suitable for corridors where people approach the sensor from either direction.
Coverage and positioning
The specified detection area is 25 × 3 m at a mounting height of 2.8 m; the installation range is 2–4 m. The stated 360° angle should not be interpreted as a circular area with a 25 m diameter. Reach and sensitivity can be set independently for the two corridor directions, with the STEINEL logo providing an orientation reference. HF sensing may also respond to movement through glass, wood or lightweight partitions. Commissioning therefore involves checking the actual boundaries and reducing the range electronically where necessary. This Hallway model does not provide TruePresence breathing-micro-movement detection, and the TruePresence-specific scenarios in the shared family manual must not be assumed to apply to it.
Supply, DALI capacity and grouping
The detector requires a 220–240 V, 50–60 Hz mains supply and controls the lighting through DALI commands rather than a COM1 load relay. The manufacturer specifies up to 64 DALI electronic control gears. Broadcast operation treats the connected luminaires as one group, while addressed operation supports up to four DALI groups and an additional multizone. The STEINEL Connect app assigns luminaires to groups corresponding to the actual corridor sections. The manual lists a manufacturer-guaranteed DALI supply current of 128 mA, a guaranteed value of 54 mA under IEC 62386-101, and a maximum supply current of 250 mA. Device count must therefore be checked against the current requirements of the actual line; the maximum figure is not a continuously guaranteed design budget.
Lighting modes and dimming
Constant-light control adjusts DALI dimming in response to the measured daylight contribution. Fully automatic operation switches the lighting on and off, while semi-automatic operation normally requires a user button to turn it on and then switches it off after the configured delay. The separate Light sensor mode regulates illumination with motion detection suspended. Nightmatic mode switches the lighting according to ambient brightness. The light-level setting is 2–2000 lx. Use the 10 s–60 min timing range supported by both the current article table and the manual technical specifications; another paragraph in the manual mentions a five-second minimum. Basic lighting can maintain a reduced level between movement events, and the neighbouring-group function can activate a defined adjacent zone in advance.
Buttons, networking and installation
A local S button input and suitable DALI buttons are supported, with addressed button functions assigned during configuration. Bluetooth Mesh provides supported wireless grouping, while DALI component compatibility and bus topology still require their own design checks. The manual restricts DALI-2 certification to single-master applications with control gear; installations with multiple controllers or additional input devices have separate manufacturer support conditions. The UP article measures 103 × 103 × 67 mm overall; the full manual refines the last dimension to 66.5 mm. This is the overall construction depth, not only the part visible below the ceiling. The net weight is 184 g, the enclosure rating is IP20, and the ambient operating range is −20 to +50 °C. The enclosure rating does not change the intended indoor application. Luminaires, lighting control gear and separate buttons are not supplied with the detector. As a standalone sensor without a light source, it does not carry a luminaire energy-label or EPREL claim.
Image context
The main image shows the offered white Hallway DALI-2 APC UP, article 086305. The corridor photograph is a manufacturer application illustration: the exact installed model, interface and colour are not established, and room equipment is not included. The other images show the detection pattern and dimensions for the relevant mounting type.
