Product Description

Presence detection with square coverage

STEINEL IR Quattro HD-2 COM1 AP is a black ceiling presence detector with Bluetooth Mesh connectivity. Its passive infrared optics provide 5200 switching zones for detecting the smaller movements associated with working at a desk or taking part in a lesson. The detector uses presence and ambient-light information to adapt lighting operation to the way a room is being used. The black housing is specified as RAL 9005; AP identifies the version that mounts on the ceiling surface. This HD-2 generation COM1 model controls one lighting circuit through its relay.

At a height of 2.8 m with the potentiometer at position 7, tangential coverage is 24 × 24 m, presence coverage is 9 × 9 m and radial coverage is 7.5 × 7.5 m according to the manual's table. These are square side dimensions, rather than circular diameters. The broad outer area detects movement across the room, while the smaller presence area helps determine where occupied workstations should sit. For rooms with seated occupants, plan the position around the presence coverage and any physical obstructions.

Four individually adjustable PIR elements allow the response to be adapted to the room layout. Each element can have its sensitivity adjusted or be deactivated in the app, while the potentiometer on the back of the sensor sets the detection area according to the manual's table. This is useful when desks occupy one side of the room and a circulation route occupies another. A detection test after installation helps select settings for the actual space rather than relying only on the largest advertised area. Keep the intended occupied zone within an unobstructed view of the detector.

Bluetooth Mesh groups and everyday control

The STEINEL Connect app and Bluetooth Mesh provide configuration and wireless cooperation between detectors. The unit can operate independently or join a group that responds to detected movement together. The neighbouring-group function allows activity in one zone to switch on an associated lighting group. This helps plan transitions between parts of a room or adjoining circulation areas. During initial configuration, the app stores the network access key; this key can then be shared to allow another phone or tablet to access the same network.

In fully automatic mode, presence detection and the selected light threshold control the lighting. In semi-automatic mode, the occupant requests light with a push-button and the sensor switches it off automatically. A button can be connected to input S and configured in the app; the manual also supports assigning buttons from the Bluetooth Mesh network. Presentation mode keeps lighting switched off after a button command while movement continues to be detected. Once movement stops and the stay-on time has elapsed, normal sensor operation resumes.

The stay-on time is adjustable from 5 seconds to 60 minutes, allowing the switch-off delay to match how the room is used. A 2–2000 lx light threshold helps make use of available daylight. Teach stores the light level measured at the installation after ten seconds. Pulse mode provides a two-second output followed by an eight-second pause, for example when triggering suitable staircase timing equipment. Test mode and the indicator LED help confirm the response before final everyday settings are selected.

COM1 load selection and installation planning

The COM1 relay switches one lighting circuit on and off. Permitted total LED power depends on the individual lamp's wattage class: the manufacturer gives limits of 100, 300 or 600 W. At the same time, observe the exact product page's limit of no more than eight LED or fluorescent lamps and a total capacitive load below 176 µF. These limits apply together and should be considered with the connected lighting control gear. The detector operates from a 220–240 V AC supply.

The AP housing measures 123 × 123 × 64 mm and has IP54 protection. This version is intended for ceiling mounting indoors. Mounting heights from 2.5 to 10 m are permitted, but the table for the chosen height determines the available fine-movement detection area; maximum mounting height does not imply the full presence zone at that height. The magnetic sensor module makes attachment to the mounting assembly straightforward. The installation manual specifies a distance of at least three metres from Wi-Fi routers or access points, which should be considered when planning the detector position.

Image context. The main image shows this black AP surface-mounted model. The additional close-up of a white detector shows the HD-2 family UP concealed-mounted version and illustrates the sensor construction; it does not represent the mounting housing or black colour supplied here. The office photograph is the manufacturer’s application illustration. The listed SKU and technical data define the supplied version.
