Product Description
Anthracite motion sensor for facades and driveways
STEINEL IS 180-2, article 034580, is a wall-mounted motion sensor for automatically switching separate luminaires indoors and outdoors. Its anthracite RAL 7016 housing coordinates with dark doors, garage fronts and facade details. Suitable locations include entrances, courtyards, terraces and driveways where light is needed as someone approaches or passes through. Using a separate sensor allows the detection position to be selected independently of the connected light, within the possibilities of the electrical installation.
Set the detection area to suit the approach
Two passive infrared sensors respond to changes in heat emitted by moving people and animals. Together they provide a 180° horizontal detection angle, a 90° vertical aperture and 504 switching zones. Detection is most dependable when a person walks across the field of view. Beside an entrance or garage, a position to one side of the normal walking route therefore helps the sensor recognise movement. Walls, glass and other obstacles interrupt its infrared view, so the selected location should provide a clear line of sight to the area being monitored.
The removable lens can be reversed and refitted to select a maximum tangential detection radius of 5 m or 12 m. These values apply at an installation height of approximately 2 m with movement across the detection area. The supplied shrouds let you exclude individual sectors, such as a public pavement, a neighbouring driveway or moving shrubs. Start with the appropriate lens position, refine the coverage with the shrouds, and walk through the intended route to check the result. This makes it possible to focus operation on the part of the property where automatic lighting is useful.
Time and twilight settings at the sensor
Two potentiometers behind the front cover provide the everyday adjustments. The switch-off delay is adjustable from 5 seconds to 15 minutes, while the twilight threshold covers 2–2000 lx. A short delay suits a brief passage; a longer setting gives more time at a doorway or in a utility area. The twilight setting determines how dark the surroundings must be before movement activates the lighting. For a daylight walk test, use the shortest time setting and the daylight threshold, then adjust both controls to suit normal use. Make these adjustments with the lens fitted. Configuration takes place directly on the device without an app or remote control.
Match the load to the lamps
The IS 180-2 operates from a 230 V, 50 Hz supply and switches connected lighting on and off. Its maximum resistive load is 1000 W. The permitted total LED load depends on individual lamp wattage: 100 W for lamps rated < 2 W; 175 W for lamps rated > 2 W and < 8 W; and 350 W for lamps rated > 8 W. When selecting a group of lights, observe the relevant wattage category, a maximum of 50 LED light sources and a combined capacitance of c < 132 µF. The sensor provides switching control rather than brightness adjustment.
Installation and everyday use
The specified installation height is 1.8–4 m, with 2 m recommended as the optimum. The sensor mounts on a wall; an optional corner wall bracket allows installation on an internal or external corner and is purchased separately. Position the sensor at least 50 cm from a light so that heat from the luminaire does not cause unwanted triggering. Select cable connections and any external switches using the manufacturer's wiring diagrams. A continuous-light arrangement is available through the external changeover switch shown in those diagrams. For a system with several sensors, the manufacturer specifies wired Master/Master interconnection.
The UV-resistant plastic housing has an IP54 rating and electrical protection class II. Its operating temperature range is −20 to +50 °C. The body measures 56 × 76 × 120 mm in depth × width × height and has a net weight of 130 g. Its compact proportions help when choosing a position beside a door frame or on a narrow section of wall. STEINEL specifies a three-year manufacturer's warranty. For routine care, wipe a dirty lens gently with a damp cloth without cleaning agents, keeping the view of the detection area clear.
