Product Description
STEINEL IS 240 DUO is a white wall-mounted PIR motion detector for automatic lighting indoors and outdoors. 240° coverage and up to 12 m tangential reach suit entrances, paths, terraces and driveways. The included corner bracket makes use of the wide detection field on an external building corner. Article 602819, EAN 4007841602819.

Understanding detection
- Up to 12 m tangentially (302 m²): detection is most reliable when a person moves across the field.
- Up to 5 m on direct approach (52 m²): moving straight towards the detector gives a shorter range. These distances are measured from the sensor, not across a full circle.
- Adjustable coverage: aim the head and mask unwanted sectors to exclude a neighbouring path or road.
The optics provide 276 switching zones, not separate lighting-control circuits. Sneak-by protection covers the area below the sensor; the vertical aperture is 180°.
PIR detects heat from moving people or animals; it cannot detect through glass or walls. Maximum reach depends on movement direction, installation height and ambient temperature. Keep the view clear and install at least 50 cm from a light, as directed in the manual.
Settings and lighting control
- 10 s–15 min delay: light remains on for the selected period after the last detected movement; new movement restarts the timer.
- 2–2000 lx threshold: sets how dark the surroundings must be for movement to switch the light on. A lower setting is for darkness; a higher setting also permits operation in brighter conditions.
- Potentiometer settings: time delay and brightness are adjusted on the detector. There is no Bluetooth connection, app or remote-control support. The light threshold is set manually; there is no Teach-in function.
- Relay on/off operation: switches one lighting circuit without dimming or background lighting.
An external changeover switch can provide continuous light according to the manufacturer’s diagram. This is not an automatic four-hour override timer. Multiple detectors can be interconnected by cable as shown in the wiring diagram; this does not increase the permitted lighting load.

Supply: 230 V / 50 Hz. Live L and neutral N are required; the light receives switched live L′. The output is not a potential-free contact.

Each LED rating is the combined load of all connected lamps in that category. Choose the category by the wattage of one LED lamp. Driver inrush current and capacitance also matter; the resistive rating is not an LED load rating.
The manufacturer’s parallel-corrected fluorescent load entry is inconsistent. Obtain separate confirmation for that application; this does not change the LED limits shown above.
Housing, installation and supplied items
UV-resistant plastic housing; net weight 221 g. IP54 protects against harmful dust ingress and splashing water when correctly installed with the cable seals. Operating temperature: −20…+50°C. Electrical protection class II means double insulation.
Supplied with one detector, mounting base and masking elements. The external-corner bracket is included. The controlled light and external switches are sold separately.
3-year manufacturer warranty, subject to STEINEL terms. A qualified installer must complete mains wiring in accordance with the instructions.
