Product Description

STEINEL XSolar SOL-O S Amber Light in anthracite is a compact outdoor solar wall light with downward illumination. Its integrated solar panel stores energy in the battery during the day, so no 230 V mains connection is needed at the wall. The motion sensor activates brighter light after dark at entrances, terraces and paths.

Light on movement — extra-warm 1800 K

The complete light delivers 255 lm with a maximum input of 3.3 W. The 1800 K light has a distinctly warm amber tone for restrained evening lighting. STEINEL calls this version Amber Light. It directs light downwards and is a dedicated 1800 K version, rather than a switchable 3000 K model. Soft light start brings the light on gradually.

360° PIR sensor with up to 6 m reach

The passive infrared (PIR) sensor detects changes in heat radiation from moving people. Reach is up to 6 m across the detection zone and up to 2 m when approaching the sensor directly. The manufacturer lists these as Ø12 m and Ø4 m detection-zone diameters. The 360° figure describes the sensor optics; the wall, mounting position and obstructions affect the usable zone.

The two supplied lens shrouds let you mask unwanted segments, such as a road or neighbouring property. Detection also extends underneath the light. The manual illustrates coverage at 2 m mounting height; the maximum height specified by STEINEL is 2.5 m.

Four clearly defined operating modes

  • P0 — off: factory setting and storage mode.
  • P1 — motion only: movement activates the light after dark. This mode preserves energy during less sunny periods.
  • P2 — motion and night light: approximately 3% basic illumination in the morning and evening, with full light on movement.
  • P3 — all-night night light and motion: approximately 3% illumination remains between motion events. When battery charge is low, night light takes priority and movement may no longer activate full output.

The twilight threshold is 2 lux. Electronics adjust the 10–30-second stay-on time and brightness automatically to conditions and available energy; the user does not set a freely adjustable timer. Night light uses more of the stored energy. In P2, morning night light is not activated on the first night.

For initial activation, the manual specifies P3, which starts a one-minute test mode for checking detection in daylight. The selected programme then takes over. Modes are selected on the light itself; this model has no Bluetooth, Wi-Fi or remote control.

Solar energy with additional USB-C charging

The integrated monocrystalline solar panel charges the supplied lithium iron phosphate (LiFePO4) battery: 2 × 2000 mAh (4000 mAh total). Choose a position with as much direct sunlight as possible, preferably facing south. Overhanging roofs, trees, dirt and installation behind glass reduce available solar energy.

When sunlight is insufficient, charge through the USB-C socket (5 V, up to 3 A); STEINEL specifies up to 6 hours for charging. The USB-C cable and charger are not included. Remove the body from the wall bracket and open the socket cover to charge. USB-C is an input for charging the light, not a power output for a phone.

A flashing red LED during normal operation indicates low charge. While a charger is connected, flashing means charging and a steady red light means fully charged. With a deeply discharged battery, the LED may take up to approximately 10 minutes to start flashing. Fully charge the battery before first use.

The manufacturer specifies a reserve of up to 20 days at 20 switching events per night. This is a conditional reserve figure, not continuous runtime: frequent movement, night light, shade and winter conditions reduce it.

Outdoor installation, protection and care

Dimensions are 91 × 242 × 53 mm (depth × width × height). The manufacturer lists a net weight of 594 g. The housing is aluminium and the light cover is structured plastic. IP44 provides protection against splashing water and solid objects larger than 1 mm; IK03 specifies impact resistance. Electrical protection class III corresponds to low-voltage battery operation.

The operating range is −20…+40 °C, while the battery charges only from 0 °C. Operation below freezing therefore does not mean the battery can charge at that temperature. Short winter days and snow may make additional USB-C charging necessary. Keep the panel clean using a soft cloth and mild detergent.

The integrated LED light source is not replaceable. STEINEL specifies 50,000 h, L70B10; this describes LED lumen maintenance, not battery lifetime. Colour rendering is CRI 80–89 and initial colour consistency is SDCM 5. For prolonged storage, select off mode, fully charge the battery and recharge it periodically. Users must not open the battery enclosure; repairs require specialist service.
