Product Description
STEINEL L 331 S in anthracite is a round outdoor LED sensor wall light with a protective front grille. Its weatherproof, UV-resistant plastic housing and impact-resistant PMMA diffuser suit entrances, garages, courtyards and building surroundings. Four programmes let you choose motion-triggered lighting, gentle basic light or full output throughout the dark period.
Warm white light and a durable enclosure
The 8.4 W LED system delivers 711 lm in warm white 3000 K. An opal PMMA diffuser spreads the light behind the protective grille. CRI 82 describes colour rendering; SDCM 3 indicates a small initial colour variation between these LED sources. IK10 states the enclosure's impact-resistance rating, while IP44 provides protection against splashing water.
360° detection that can be limited to the required area
The dual passive infrared sensor responds to heat from moving people and animals. Its reach is up to 7 m for movement across the sensor and up to 2 m for a direct approach. Detection also covers the area beneath the light. Walls and glass prevent the sensor from detecting movement behind them.
The optimum mounting height is 2 m, within a permitted 1.8–2.5 m range. Three included sensor shrouds cover selected lens segments, helping to reduce unwanted activation towards a pavement or neighbouring property. This physically limits the detection zone without providing electronic sensitivity adjustment.
Four practical lighting programmes
- P1 — standard. Motion switches the light on; no basic light remains during standby.
- P2 — comfort. Approximately 10% basic light starts when the selected twilight level is reached. Motion increases output to 100% for the set duration, then the light returns to 10%.
- P3 — economy comfort. Approximately 10% basic light runs from dusk until the calculated middle of the night. Motion activates full output.
- P4 — Nightmatic. The light operates at 100% whenever ambient brightness is below the set threshold; motion signals are ignored in this programme.
Soft light start and fade-out gradually increase and reduce brightness. The 10% basic-light value refers to light output, not a promise of exactly 10% electricity consumption. P3 calculates the middle of the night from the length of dark periods rather than using a clock. During its first calibration night, basic light stays on all night. The calculation adapts over several nights, so the power supply should remain connected while using this programme.
Rotary controls on the removable sensor module select time, brightness threshold and programme. Light duration ranges from 5 seconds to 15 minutes; each further detected movement restarts the timer. The 2–1000 lx twilight setting determines the ambient brightness at which the selected programme operates. Sensor standby consumption is 0.41 W, separate from the light's 8.4 W operating power.
Synchronised lighting along a wall or entrance
A dedicated K communication wire can link up to 10 STEINEL L 330 S and L 331 S lights over a maximum communication-wire length of 50 m. Movement detected by one light activates the group. All lights must use the same programme; individual time and twilight controls still apply. K is a communication connection only: do not apply voltage or connect external loads to it. This model operates without Bluetooth or an app.
Manual control and supplied components
An external mains switch can activate 4-hour continuous light by switching the supply off and on twice in quick succession, following the manual. The light automatically returns to sensor operation after four hours. One off/on sequence cancels continuous mode; the manual specifies switching intervals of 0.2–1 second. An ordinary external dimmer is not supported.
The package includes the luminaire with its integrated LED light source and driver, sensor module, sealing blank for the sensor opening, three spacers, sealing ring and three sensor shrouds. No separate bulb is required. The manual permits replacing the sensor module physically with the supplied blank to operate the light using a mains switch. This is a configuration of the same supplied product, rather than a separate orderable variant.
Overall dimensions are 124 × 253 × 270 mm (depth × width × height), with a 253 mm round body and 1071 g net weight. It mounts on a wall with either a concealed or surface supply cable. Connection is to 220–240 V AC, 50–60 Hz; electrical protection class is II and operating temperature is −20 to +35 °C. A qualified installer must make the mains connection in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions.
LED lifetime and energy information
The LED source and driver are not replaceable. The current datasheet states more than 60,000 hours under L70B50 conditions at 25 °C and 50,000 hours at maximum operating temperature. These lifetime figures apply under the manufacturer's stated conditions. The contained LS-0011 light source has energy efficiency class D; its label shows 9 kWh/1000 h and EPREL record 804016. A 5-year manufacturer warranty applies subject to its terms. Clean with a soft, lightly damp cloth without detergent after disconnecting the power supply.

Notes on manufacturer information
The manufacturer's generic basic-light time field also lists 10/30-minute options, but the specific L 330 S / L 331 S manual does not describe them. The four programmes above follow that manual: basic light throughout the dark period or until the calculated middle of the night.
The separately generated drawing omits the sensor and has different dimensions. The overall 124 × 253 × 270 mm dimensions agree with the current specification table and the exact L 331 S manual figure 3.3 included in the gallery. The manual's “Slave” label beside the sealing blank concerns physically replacing the sensor; there is no separate electronically selectable Slave mode.
