Product Description
STEINEL L 42 SC is an anthracite outdoor LED wall light for entrances, facades, terraces and balconies. Its vertical aluminium housing and opal plastic diffuser provide even, warm white 3000 K light. The integrated motion sensor switches the light on when it detects movement and ambient light is below the chosen twilight threshold.
Light for everyday use
889 lm luminous flux and 13 W power consumption describe the built-in STEINEL LED system; no separate bulb is needed. Luminous flux indicates how much visible light the fitting emits, while 3000 K describes its warm white light colour. The Ra 82 colour-rendering index helps maintain a natural appearance of doors, facade finishes and surrounding objects.
Main light brightness is adjustable from 5–100% in the STEINEL Connect app. Soft light start lets the illumination increase gradually. 5–100% basic light provides orientation lighting between motion detections. Set basic lighting to run for 10 seconds to 60 minutes, control it by ambient brightness, or switch it off.
Bluetooth control and lighting groups
Use the STEINEL Connect app on a smartphone or tablet to configure operation and connect compatible lights through Bluetooth Mesh. This SC light can send a motion signal to an L 42 C light in the same group. Grouped sensor lights can share control of the lighting (master/master); a sensor light can also control an L 42 C light without its own sensor (master/slave).
Create lighting groups and schedules, use the neighbouring-group function and adjust fade-in and fade-out times. A permanent light mode is selectable. Settings and the operating state are retained through a power interruption and restored when power returns.
Motion sensor operation
The 180° PIR sensor detects heat radiation from moving people or animals. Reach is up to 10 m (157 m²) across the detection zone and up to 4 m (25 m²) when approaching directly. For reliable detection, position the light to the side of the expected direction of travel. Optimum mounting height is 2 m, with a maximum of 2.5 m.
The 5 sec–60 min time setting determines how long the light stays on after the last detected movement; each new detection restarts the timer. The 2–2000 lx twilight setting allows operation in darkness or brighter conditions. Teach-in stores the desired ambient brightness level; settings are adjusted in the STEINEL Connect app. Adapt the detection zone mechanically with the supplied cover clips. Electronic reach adjustment is not provided. Walls, glass and other obstacles restrict detection of heat radiation.
Housing and outdoor protection
IP54 provides protection against water splashes and harmful dust ingress, making the light suitable for outdoor wall mounting. The aluminium housing is combined with an opal plastic diffuser. IK03 describes tested resistance to mechanical impact.
Installation, additional operating data and package contents
Dimensions and connection
Dimensions 105 × 131 × 306 mm (depth × width × height), net weight 1034 g. Designed for wall mounting with a concealed or surface-mounted supply lead, with a 220–240 V AC, 50–60 Hz supply. Electrical protection class I requires a protective earth connection. Bluetooth provides control signals; the light still needs a mains power connection. Follow the installation instructions for this model with the power disconnected. Operating temperature −20 to +40 °C.
LED system and additional functions
The LED module and control gear cannot be replaced. Rated LED lifetime is more than 60,000 hours, L70B50 at 25 °C; the stated average rated control gear lifetime at 25 °C also exceeds 60,000 hours. L70B50 describes lumen maintenance under defined test conditions, rather than the warranty period. Luminous efficacy is 68.4 lm/W, with initial colour consistency of SDCM 6. Energy class F and 13 kWh/1000 h apply to the integrated LED light source energy label.
Network standby power is 0.43 W (sensor standby is also listed as 0.43 W; these are not two loads to add together). Bluetooth transmitter power is 1 mW. Observe the manufacturer’s specified minimum distance of 3 m from a Wi-Fi router or access point.
Factory settings: main light time 10 seconds, basic light time 1 minute, twilight threshold 2000 lx and basic light level 50%.
Package contents
One luminaire, three screws, three wall plugs and three spacers, safety information and a quick-start guide, plus three sensor cover clips. A separate remote control is not included.
