Product Description
STEINEL DUAL HF DALI-2 IPD is a white ceiling presence detector for monitoring long indoor corridors. Two high-frequency systems watch opposite directions so that movement can be detected from either end of the passageway. It suits an office corridor, hotel floor or another circulation space equipped with DALI lighting management. Article 057459 is a DALI-2 Input Device. It supplies motion and brightness information to the system, while a separate application controller determines the required lighting behaviour.
5.8 GHz HF detection responds to changes in reflected signals rather than relying on a person's heat contrast with the surroundings. STEINEL specifies 360° corridor detection over an area of up to 20 × 3 m. The overall length combines coverage in two directions, up to 10 m each way; it does not describe a 20 m radius around the device. Cross-corridor coverage is limited to suit the width of a passage. HF signals can travel through glass, wood and lightweight partitions, so suitability for the actual location must be checked during commissioning. Electronic adjustment of reach helps restrict unwanted detection outside the required corridor.
Mount the detector on the ceiling with concealed wiring at a height of 2.5–3.5 m, ideally 2.8 m. The white RAL 9010 plastic housing integrates with light ceiling surfaces. The current article datasheet lists dimensions of 74 × 120 × 120 mm, with a 120 × 120 mm front face. Choose a firm location that is not subject to vibration and align the sensing directions with the corridor axis. Its IP20 rating is intended for indoor installation. A suitable surface-mounting adapter or guard cage can be purchased separately where the mounting arrangement or risk of physical contact requires one.
Power and communication use the 12–22.5 V DC DALI bus. The detector has no separate 230 V luminaire-load output. A DALI-2 controller processes its data and sends commands to compatible lighting control gear. Consequently, this IPD version is not a self-contained APC application controller and does not independently regulate dimming. Dimming can be provided by the complete system when the controller and luminaire drivers support it. Stay-on times, lighting scenes and the required brightness level are specified in the control design rather than assumed from the capabilities of another electrical version with a similar housing.
Brightness measurement complements motion information so the controller can take daylight into account. Include the detector in the DALI power calculation: the manufacturer’s instructions specify 14 mA at 10 V for Dual HF and recommend adding a 20% reserve for system planning. Typical consumption at 16 V is 10 mA. The installation requires a DALI-2 controller compatible with the input-device profile and an appropriate bus power supply. The DALI terminals are not an ordinary mains-load connection and must not be treated as connections for a conventional domestic light switch.
After installation, confirm that the controller receives motion reports and check the resulting light response from both corridor ends. Include nearby doorways, glazed partitions and movement outside the intended area in the checks. The number of detectors and their coordination in a longer passage are determined by the project. Settings for this IPD version are communicated through the bus; any remote configuration features depend on the chosen control system. The corridor photograph illustrates a DUAL HF family application, while the actual electrical connection is defined by this product’s DALI-2 IPD interface.
