Product Description
STEINEL DUAL HF KNX V3.1 is a white ceiling presence detector designed around the shape of a long indoor corridor. It suits office passageways, hotel floors and similar spaces where people primarily move along one extended axis. Two high-frequency sensing systems monitor opposite corridor directions, allowing the detector to sit between the areas it supervises. This version communicates through KNX for lighting and other building-control functions. Article 059477 belongs to a KNX installation; an outward resemblance to a DALI detector does not make the electrical interfaces interchangeable.
The 5.8 GHz HF system detects changes in reflected radio signals, so its operating principle does not depend on a temperature difference between a person and the room. STEINEL specifies 360° detection with an elongated area of up to 20 × 3 m. This length describes the combined coverage in two directions, up to 10 m each way, rather than a 20 m radius around the detector. Limited cross-corridor coverage helps concentrate detection on the passageway. Signals can pass through glass, wood and lightweight partitions, making checks for unwanted detection in neighbouring rooms part of commissioning. Reach in each direction can be adjusted electronically.
Install the detector on the ceiling with concealed wiring at a height of 2.5–3.5 m; the manufacturer identifies 2.8 m as optimum. Its white RAL 9010 plastic housing has a 120 × 120 mm face, with a depth dimension of 73 mm in the current article datasheet. Choose a stable location and align the two sensing directions with the corridor axis. The IP20 version is intended for indoor use. A surface-mounting adapter and protective cage are optional accessories, selected according to the ceiling construction and the way the space is used.
Power comes from the 24 V KNX bus, as specified in the manufacturer's KNX family installation manual. Do not connect the detector to a 230 V supply. A separate KNX actuator switches the luminaire load; dimming also requires a compatible dimming actuator and suitable lighting equipment. Its four lighting channels are programmable bus-control channels rather than four physical mains relays. ETS configuration supports switching, dimming and constant-lighting control. Basic brightness can retain orientation lighting while a corridor is empty, provided that the complete installation supports the selected function.
Mixed-light measurement allows daylight to influence the control programme. The KNX application also provides a separate photocell controller output that responds to brightness independently of occupancy, sending its command to the actuator over the bus. HVAC, presence and day/night functions are available through the application; their behaviour depends on ETS parameters and group-address assignments. Stay-on times, brightness thresholds and lighting levels are chosen for the project. The programming button on the detector is for KNX commissioning and is not an everyday manual light switch.
After installation, test entry from both corridor ends, movement across doorways and locations outside the intended detection area. Adjust the initial reach to the actual space and check switch-off timing with normal traffic. In a longer or branching corridor, multiple detectors can share information through the KNX network according to the project configuration. RC6, RC7 and Smart Remote control accessories are optional purchases; they complement configuration but do not replace the KNX power supply, ETS programming or lighting actuators.
