Product Description

STEINEL PD-24 ECO COM1 DE is a black, in-ceiling ceiling presence and motion detector. It controls lighting in offices, meeting rooms, ancillary rooms or warehouses according to human movement and ambient brightness. 360° motion detection covers a diameter of up to 24 m; presence detection covers up to 7.5 m. Motion and presence are different detection ratings

  • Tangential motion: Ø24 m (452 m²). The larger area applies when a person moves across the sensor field.
  • Direct approach: Ø5.5 m (24 m²). Radial detection covers a smaller area.
  • Presence: Ø7.5 m (44 m²). Detects smaller movements, for example at a desk. A PIR detector cannot reliably detect a completely motionless person.
  • 1436 optical switching zones support movement detection; these are not 1436 individually controlled rooms.

All reach values are diameters, not radii. Mounting height, direction of movement and obstructions affect coverage. Supplied shrouds mask unwanted areas; this model has no electronic reach adjustment.

Mounting version and dimensions

DE is the suspended-ceiling version with a spring adapter. Overall dimensions including the adapter are Ø109 × 114 mm. These are not the cut-out size or the recessed depth alone. The adapter instructions specify a Ø68 mm cut-out and 10–25 mm ceiling thickness. The Ø67 mm adapter body is not the cut-out size; overall adapter height is 77 mm. Allow additional space above the ceiling for the wiring connection. IP20 is for dry indoor locations.

The optimum mounting height is 2.8 m. The current product page specifies installation at 2–10 m. The magnetic connection between sensor and load module simplifies installation. The housing is plastic; net weight is 169 g. Operating temperature: −20…+50°C.

High mounting positions: the current PD-24 product page allows up to 10 m, while the older shared manual specifies 2.5–4 m. The stated presence coverage must not automatically be assumed at 10 m. Confirm the application with the manufacturer when designing an installation above 4 m.

COM1 relay and switching loads

COM1 switches one lighting circuit on and off. It does not dim the light or provide constant-light dimming. Supply: 220–240 V AC, 50/60 Hz, with live and neutral required. The sensor’s own standby consumption is less than 0.1 W.

The resistive load limit is 2000 W; low-voltage halogen lamps are rated at 2000 VA. LED lamps over 8 W and electronic ballasts: up to 500 W, no more than 50 lamps, combined capacitance below 176 µF. These limits apply together; 2000 W is not a universal LED rating. Luminaire-driver inrush current also affects compatibility.

Automatic operation, pushbutton and settings

  • 2–1000 lx: select the ambient-light threshold. Teach-in stores the measured brightness.
  • 5 s–60 min: switch-off delay after the last detected movement.
  • Fully automatic mode: lighting switches on and off according to movement and ambient light.
  • Semi-automatic mode: switch the light on with a connected pushbutton; switch-off is automatic.
  • Presentation mode: lighting switched off by button stays off while the room is occupied; automatic operation resumes after motion ceases and the delay expires.
  • 4-hour manual override: activate continuous light by pressing the connected pushbutton twice; another command restores automatic mode.
  • Master/Master: wire up to 10 sensors in parallel to extend the detection field.
  • Normal and test modes: test mode helps check detector positioning.

Use potentiometers for basic settings; additional commissioning is available with RC8 (559410) or Smart Remote (009151). RC5 (592806) is a user remote for commands such as 4-hour ON/OFF. Remote controls are sold separately. The detector has no built-in Bluetooth. With Smart Remote, the phone connects by Bluetooth to that separate accessory, not directly to the detector.

Supplied items and manufacturer details

Supplied with one detector, detection shrouds and the parts for the selected mounting version. The DE version includes a suspended-ceiling adapter; the UP version does not include that adapter. Remote control, external pushbutton and controlled luminaire are not included. Manufacturer warranty: 5 years, subject to STEINEL terms.
