Product Description
STEINEL L 940 SC is an anthracite outdoor wall light with a motion sensor for entrances, facades, terraces and balconies. Its compact aluminium body provides upward and downward light, with decorative illuminated strips along the upper and lower edges. The two included GU10 LED bulbs deliver a combined 1240 lm with warm white 3000 K light. The passive infrared motion sensor (PIR) turns the light on when it detects movement and ambient light falls below the selected threshold.

Light and light source
The light includes two GU10 LED bulbs, each rated at 6.7 W, 620 lm and 3000 K. The stated combined output is 1240 lm, with total luminaire power of 14.5 W. Colour rendering is Ra 81; initial colour consistency of SDCM 3 helps keep the light colour similar across matching fittings.
The GU10 bulbs can be replaced by the user. Replacement GU10 LED bulbs must be rated at no more than 7 W each. After replacement, brightness, colour temperature and consumption depend on the new bulbs. The included light sources have energy class F and a rated lifetime of more than 20,000 hours, L70B50 at 25 °C. L70B50 describes lumen maintenance under defined test conditions, rather than the warranty period. The control gear cannot be replaced. Main light brightness is not adjustable.
The CRI/Ra colour-rendering index describes how naturally object colours appear under the light. Values closer to 100 indicate more faithful colour rendering.
Bluetooth control and interconnection
Use the STEINEL Connect app on a Bluetooth-capable smartphone or tablet for configuration. Connect compatible lights through Bluetooth Mesh for coordinated operation. This SC model has its own motion sensor and can trigger a compatible sensor-free C light in the same group. An app network key provides access to the configuration; share it to grant access from another phone.
Use Lux-Teach to store the current ambient light level as the switching threshold, set a manual override until a selected time of day, or use the neighbouring-group function to trigger compatible neighbouring groups from a motion signal. Pushbutton configuration and pushbutton/switch operating modes are also available. This family has no basic light, soft light start or adjustable main light brightness.
Sensor operation and positioning
The 180° PIR sensor detects heat radiation from moving people or animals. Reach is up to 8.5 m (113 m²) across the detection zone and up to 3 m (14 m²) when approaching directly. For reliable detection, position the light to the side of the expected direction of travel. Optimum mounting height is 1.8 m, with a maximum of 4 m. Walls, glass and other obstacles restrict detection of heat radiation.
The 5 sec–60 min time setting determines how long the light remains on after the last detected movement; every new detection restarts the timer. The 2–1000 lx twilight setting allows operation in darkness or brighter conditions, while Teach-in stores the current ambient light level as the switching threshold. This model has no separate detection zone directly beneath the sensor (sneak-by guard), electronic or mechanical reach adjustment, or segment masking. Take the detection zone into account when selecting the installation position.

Connection and installation
Designed for secure installation on an outdoor wall. Dimensions 115 × 70 × 160 mm (depth × width × height); net weight 560 g. The housing is aluminium, with structured plastic light covers. Supply 220–240 V AC, 50–60 Hz; electrical protection class I requires a protective earth connection. Follow the manufacturer’s wiring diagram with the power disconnected. Operating temperature −20 to +40 °C.
The included GU10 light sources have a 38° beam angle and a saturated-red colour-rendering value of R9 −0.4. These figures describe the supplied bulbs.
Additional operating data
Sensor standby power is 0.47 W. Factory settings are 10 seconds for the main light, a twilight threshold of 1000 lx and fixed main-light brightness at 100% (not adjustable). Use the shortest time and daylight operation to test the detection zone.
Bluetooth frequency range 2.4–2.48 GHz, transmitter power 4 dBm / 3 mW.
Package contents and care
Supplied with one light, wall mount and mounting accessories, two GU10 LED bulbs, two screws and two wall plugs. A separate remote control and self-adhesive house-number set are not included. Clean the housing with a soft damp cloth, without aggressive cleaning agents. 3-year manufacturer warranty under its terms.
