Product Description

STEINEL IR Quattro MICRO 6m KNX is a black recessed ceiling presence detector for rooms equipped with KNX building automation. It combines passive infrared sensing and measurement of room brightness, helping coordinate lighting with occupancy and available daylight. The black RAL 9005 plastic housing suits dark ceilings and interiors where technical equipment should blend into the finish. Typical applications include a single office, hotel room, care room and small ancillary space. This listing is specifically for article 068646 with a KNX interface. Separate system actuators switch and regulate electrical lighting loads and must be selected for the intended project.

The compact MICRO visible face consists of a small black trim and a precision lens measuring just 15 ×15 mm. Housing dimensions are 71 ×43 ×43 mm, with spring-clip installation in aØ35 mm opening. The instructions require at least 65 mm of clear installation depth. Detection covers 360° with a square pattern beneath the sensor. At a height of 2.8 m, tangential movement coverage is 6 ×6 m or 36 m², while radial movement and presence coverage are 4 ×4 m or 16 m². Installation is permitted at heights of 2–5 m, and the lens forms 168 detection zones.

PIR technology responds to changing heat radiation during movement, including smaller movements at a workstation. Plan detection around the actual room: cabinets, partitions and other furniture can obstruct the sensor’s view. Infrared detection cannot monitor an adjoining room through a wall or guarantee recognition of a completely motionless person under every condition. Where occupants move very little, select a stay-on time that supports comfortable daily use. Avoid positions immediately beside heat sources that could interfere with detection. STEINEL states an optimum installation height of 2.8 m; commissioning should test both entry into the room and movements made by someone seated at the intended workstation.

Power is supplied through the KNX bus, and the detector includes an integrated bus coupling. It must not be connected to 230 V mains. The manufacturer’s application supports constant-light control, basic lighting and up to four logical lighting channels. 0–100% dimming commands must be linked to the corresponding objects of a compatible external KNX dimming actuator; these channels are not four physical relays. Presence, day/night and HVAC objects are also available. The integrator assigns an address, selects functions and connects group addresses in ETS software. Actual lighting, heating or ventilation behaviour consequently depends on sensor parameters, actuator capabilities and the selected control logic.

The brightness threshold is adjustable within 2–1000 lx and the lighting stay-on time within 1–255 minutes, with supported IQ operation. IP 65 protection also permits installation in indoor rooms exposed to moisture, subject to the manufacturer’s mounting and connection requirements. RC 6, RC 7 and Smart Remote are optional accessories for supported settings and user-control functions. They do not replace the KNX power supply, bus wiring or actuators. The detector’s programming button is intended for commissioning rather than daily lighting control. After configuration, test manual commands, light regulation and switch-off delay. Wipe the lens with a damp cloth without detergents. STEINEL provides a five-year manufacturer’s warranty, subject to its warranty terms.
