Product Description
STEINEL IR Quattro SLIM XS 4m is a particularly flat presence detector for installation in a concealed ceiling box. Its white square front measures 80 × 80 mm and projects only approximately 6 mm above the ceiling surface. This low profile keeps the ceiling visually quiet in offices, hotel rooms, meeting rooms and compact work or utility spaces. A round decorative trim is also supplied, allowing the visible shape to match the interior design. The precision retina lens and square detection pattern are intended to monitor presence without a large housing projecting into the room. The plastic housing is white, RAL 9010. With an IP20 protection rating, this version is intended for dry indoor locations and should be positioned accordingly.
SLIM XS provides a 4 × 4 m presence and movement zone, illustrated by the manufacturer at a mounting height of 2.8 m. The intended installation height is 2.5–4 m, with a light measurement range of 10–1000 lx. A mounting box at least 57 mm deep and up to 68 mm in diameter is required. The nominal DALI supply is 16 V, while the instructions specify a 12–22.5 V DC bus range. The supplied masking film can reduce the detection area by up to approximately 40% where the room layout requires it.
Passive infrared technology (PIR) responds to moving sources of heat. For presence monitoring, it also detects smaller movements made by a person working at a desk. The detection angle is 360°, with a square pattern across the floor. Coverage should be planned around the installation height and actual workstation positions, because tall furniture, partitions and other obstructions can block the sensor's view. A PIR detector cannot guarantee recognition of a completely motionless person regardless of conditions. The manufacturer illustrates the detection area at a mounting height of 2.8 m; commissioning should include checking the places where occupants will sit and work. Measurement of ambient brightness complements the motion information, allowing the lighting system to take available daylight into account.
This version is a DALI-2 Input Device (IPD). The sensor takes power and communicates through the DALI bus, sending motion and brightness information to an external DALI application controller. Depending on the system configuration, the controller can request measured values or receive event-driven and periodic reports. The manufacturer's instructions refer to IEC 62386 parts 101, 103, 303 and 304. A compatible controller, bus power supply and appropriate lighting control gear are required to turn this information into switching or dimming behaviour. The detector is not an autonomous DALI APC application controller and does not provide a relay for directly switching a 230 V luminaire. Constant-light operation is implemented by the system controller using the sensor's measured brightness. Required delays, lighting targets and operating scenes are configured as part of the control system design, so the purchase should take account of every necessary system component rather than the appearance of the sensor alone.
Choose a position with a clear view of the monitored area and suitable separation from sources of heat that could affect detection. Heating equipment, air movement and moving objects within the planned zone deserve attention during commissioning. Space must be available above the ceiling for both the sensor housing and its connection; a small visible trim does not imply an equally small installation depth. The installation box, bus power supply, actuators and control unit should be selected to suit the actual project. If necessary, the sensor lens can be wiped with a damp cloth without cleaning agents. STEINEL states a five-year manufacturer's warranty for this Professional Line device, subject to the applicable warranty conditions.
