Product Description
STEINEL IS 3360 MX Highbay DALI-2 Input Device is a ceiling motion detector for tall warehouses, sports halls and other large spaces where lighting is managed by a shared building or lighting control system. The white square surface-mounted model, article 057374, detects movement and measures ambient brightness. This version communicates its measured data over the DALI-2 bus for use by a compatible external application controller. Its input-device role is essential when choosing the product: the connected management system provides the lighting logic and sends the actual commands to the luminaires.
PIR technology detects changes in the heat emitted by moving objects, so the chosen location should offer a clear view of the intended detection area. The 360° angle covers the space around the detector, with a maximum tangential detection diameter of 36 m. This figure describes movement across the sensor's field; movement directly towards it has a smaller radial coverage zone. Warehouse racks, partitions and glass can hide a person from the lens. PIR detection cannot see through these obstacles, so positioning must reflect the actual layout, particularly around tall or densely filled storage racks.
The Highbay version is designed for mounting at 4–14 m, with 12 m listed by the manufacturer as the optimum height. Tall ceilings permit observation of a large area, but coverage and detection performance change with installation height, movement direction and obstructions. Maximum reach is useful for initial planning and should then be checked in the specific building. Supplied segment shrouds can restrict directions in which movement need not be detected. This is a motion detector; a wide coverage area does not imply fine presence detection of a still seated person throughout the same area.
This is a DALI-2 data sensor without autonomous dimming control. It does not set lighting-group brightness itself, implement constant-light regulation or switch a 230 V lighting load through a relay. Its movement and brightness data are used by an external controller that supports DALI-2 sensors, such as an appropriately designed LiveLink installation. When dimming is required, the application controller and compatible DALI drivers provide that function. Compatibility therefore needs to be checked between the sensor, controller and lighting control gear: a shared DALI label alone does not establish every function required by the project.
The detector is powered from a 12–22.5 V DALI bus with a suitable system power supply. The manufacturer distinguishes typical and maximum current consumption; bus planning must use the relevant worst-case limit rather than only the typical figure. This matters particularly when several sensors and other devices share one line. The application controller can request motion and brightness measurements, and transmission can be configured according to the DALI-2 interface capabilities. Total luminaire wattage is handled by the luminaires' separate supply and control arrangement, rather than connected directly to this detector as a lighting load.
The white plastic housing has IP54 protection and measures 95 × 95 mm with a projection of 65 mm from the ceiling. The Highbay MX operating instructions specify indoor ceiling mounting, making warehouse and hall interiors the principal applications. The IP rating does not remove installation requirements for the mounting position and cable entries. Settings are made over the bus using the selected controller, and no remote control is supplied. The purchase comprises the detector; the system controller, bus power supply, luminaires and drivers are separate project components. Commissioning should verify sensor addressing, the use of the received data and lighting responses along all important movement routes.
