Product Description
STEINEL US 360 KNX V3.1 is a white ceiling presence detector for offices, meeting rooms, classrooms and ancillary spaces equipped with KNX automation. Ultrasonic sensing helps recognise movement where office furniture or another object partly obstructs the path between the detector and an occupant. Article 059514 is the KNX version, with integrated bus coupling and room-brightness measurement. It sends lighting-control commands to the bus, while a separate KNX actuator operates the connected load. The sensor does not contain a mains-voltage relay for directly switching lighting circuits.
Four sensing elements use 40 kHz ultrasound, evaluating changes in the signal reflected from room surfaces when people move. Ultrasound can cover areas around objects without requiring the same direct line of sight as passive infrared sensing. The sound waves do not penetrate walls, so the detector is not intended to monitor a neighbouring room through a partition. Commissioning should include small movements at desks, doorway entry and detection around obstructions.
A 360° detection angle covers the area surrounding the ceiling sensor. This article has a presence-zone diameter of up to Ø 6 m, corresponding to approximately 28 m². Its detailed technical data specify radial movement detection up to Ø 10 m and tangential movement detection up to Ø 6 m. Plan seated workstations using presence coverage rather than the largest movement figure. Six metres is a diameter, not a radius. Electronic sensitivity and reach adjustment allow tuning for the room layout; mechanical masking of individual segments is not provided.
The specific article's detailed mounting data give a height range of 2.5–2.8 m. Its white RAL 9010 plastic housing measures 66 × 120 × 120 mm overall and weighs 162 g net. Installation is on the ceiling with concealed wiring and an appropriate installation box. Where the ceiling requires another arrangement, choose a compatible Control PRO accessory. The surface mounting adapter shown in the photographs is a separate purchase. The IP20 rating is intended for dry indoor conditions, with an operating temperature range of −20 to +55 °C.
Power is supplied by the 24–29 V KNX bus; the detector is not connected directly to 230 V mains. ETS configuration supports up to four logical lighting outputs, presence and HVAC telegrams, basic illumination and constant-lighting control. Dimming requires a compatible external KNX dimming actuator and a suitable luminaire or driver. The occupancy-lighting threshold is adjustable within 10–1000 lx. Selected ETS parameters determine stay-on behaviour and automatic or semi-automatic operation, while the available IQ mode provides the detector's supported adaptive stay-on logic.
The integrated brightness measurement can be transmitted to KNX and used by a separate photocell controller function that operates independently of occupancy. This extends the detector's role within the building-control project while the external actuator continues to handle the electrical load. For manual lighting commands, provide a compatible KNX wall pushbutton or optional RC7 remote; there is no integrated user lighting switch. RC6, RC7 and Smart Remote are additional accessories. During commissioning, check desk movements, daylight response and the switch-off delay. Correct adjustment helps maintain lighting during occupancy and avoid unnecessary operation afterwards.
